Superb relaxing atmosphere. Thanks for creating such a comfortable temporary home CW and NE, London The Chalet Wildfire story
We built our first chalet - Wildfire Lodge in Vail Colorado in 1994. Having visited many alpine resorts we picked Chamonix, as the location for our next Chalet adventure, as just like Vail, it is a all year round resort. In the summer of 1997 after much searching for a suitable property and found a stunning classic chalet in much need of TLC. Built in the early 50's it had 8 bedrooms, a shared lavatory on each floor and one shower. It was clearly needed substantial renovation having been initially a attractive family home, but latterly used as a Gite for school children. Attracted initially by the traditional design, the huge gardens with a swimming pool, but the clincher was sitting with a glass of wine in the garden under two huge cherry trees in full fruit. Loo with a most splendid view Commissioning local French builders too refurbish what was to become chalet Wildfire was an experience I will never forget, ''A year in Provence'' was forever in mind. Having completed refurbishment in mid ski season in 97/98 it all began to look worthwhile. One of my key considerations was to ensure each bedroom had a new en-suite/private bathroom which resulted in what has become my favourite feature of the chalet - a loo with a view. What was a top floor middle bedroom which has a French window was converted into two bathrooms - the view from the loo is most spectacular with Mont Blanc and the Bosson Glacier framed by the French window.!
Chalet Wildfire now operates as a ski chalet in winter and a B&B/HB in summer. Hazel
