This is stunning walking country with clear, clean air, pine forests, gleaming glaciers and soaring peaks. Lightweight boots and shorts are usually sufficient as basic walking ware. But waterproofs are essential and trekking poles useful if you going to walk the high trails. Don't forget sunglasses and high altitude skin and lip protection.

Montenvers funicular provides views of the spectacular Mer de Glace, the You can walk or take a bubble lift from the top of the funicular train to the ice grotto which has fantastic carved ice sculptures.
The Aiguille du Midi cable care allows you to look over to Italy and view the Chamonix valley and the climbers scaling Mont Blanc and the surrounding massif.
