Chamonix is a year-round sightseeing destination

Thanks to its fantastic environment and major attractions such as the Aiguille du Midi cable car or the red cog-wheel train of Montenvers which climbs to the famous « Mer de Glace ». Chamonix mont blanc is registered on the world heritage list for its exceptional natural surroundings, Chamonix is home of Europe's highest summit, the Mont-Blanc 4810 m (16,000 ft), one of the most visited sites in the world.

Active all year round, Chamonix is a mountain community of 10,000 inhabitants where charm and tradition share the scene with modern facilities. The architectural heritage has been preserved and gives the resort its unique atmosphere. Summer is the best time of year to partake in the Savoyard lifestyle; festivals and holiday celebrations take place throughout the season. The annual « Fête des Guides » on the 15th of August is by far the most popular. There are 14 bars, 80 restaurants, 100 shops and 7 discotheques making Chamonix a lively town, both day and night. And for those who have the gaming fever, the Chamonix Casino offers black jack, roulette and slot machines in the purest French tradition.

Chamonix An ideal stopover on the

French route between lakes and the sea

Located between Lake Geneva and the Mediterranean, Chamonix Mont-Blanc is an ideal stopover to take a break, relax and admire the breathtaking scenery. Discover the Mer de Glace, France's largest glacier, while riding the romantic red train of Montenvers. Not to be missed is the Aiguille du Midi cable car, one of the highest cable cars in the world, as it takes you to 3842 m (12605 ft) for incredible close up views of the world of rock and ice that make up the Mont-Blanc. The next best thing to climbing the mountain !

 

Sports and leisure activities
Describing all the activities available during the summer season in the valley would be too long. More than 46 different sports are practiced, ranging from hiking to paragliding. During rainy days, a large sports complex offers : sports hall, indoor ice rink, 19 tennis courts (quick and clay) including 4 indoor, squash courts, a swimming pool complex with water-slide and fitness center (saunas, Turkish baths, solarium). Throughout the valley is a large choice of museums and exhibitions.

Robert Trent Jones Senior designed the 18-hole golf course that lies at the foot of Mont Blanc. Frequently referred to as one of the most beautiful in Europe, the par 72,5 course boasts a combination of strategy and subtlety along with incomparable scenery. On the grounds are a pro shop and a 26-stand driving range (8 covered). Located in Les Praz, only 3 km from town, the Chamonix Golf is open from May to November.

 

There is no better way to discover nature than by foot. The Chamonix valley maintains 330 km of marked paths from an altitude of 1035 m to 3842 m. Day hikes, overnight hikes, week-long hikes... Pleasant strolls or demanding alpine approaches... There is a 'nature' for all levels. High mountain restaurants and refuges dot the landscape adding warmth and good food to the atmosphere.
